The Real Secret Ever Manifested

Prompted by Sentinel’s recent analysis of ‘The Secret’ (read here), I did a little research to qualify some of its extraordinary statements. Their website claims that the secret is quote “the most powerful law in the universe”. That it’s “the secret to prosperity, health, relationships and happiness”. For the sceptic, it even adds a sweetened hook, one that appears overtly blasphemous, claiming it’s “the secret to life”. To label this a myth and deception would be a gross understatement. 

Now we may not truly discern their scheme or the mystique behind the book/ film’s cult phenomenon but we’ll do well to realise the REAL SECRET that was made known two thousand years ago – the timeless, unblemished truth that is God’s gift to the world, His Son – Jesus Christ. 

This secret was revealed to ordinary shepherds in the land of Bethlehem and God is still revealing His secret to ordinary people from all walks of life today. Unlike Rhonda Byrne’s book, it is authoritative, for in Jesus we find “the way, the truth, and the life”. (John 14:6). 

A secret is never a mystery for those who know where to look, right? Often we find ourselves in search of new ideas and wisdom, the kind of which seem like a missing piece during our pursuit to complete that unraveled jigsaw – us. That I can relate to myself. Whilst we should seek to learn and grow, in order to fully realise our God-given talents (and purpose), we’ll do well to be anchored in the eternal Word, not in a so-called ‘cosmic’ genie, but in the present God Himself.

I came across this inspiring poem by an unknown author, which in my humble opinion encapsulates the essence of the glorious secret ever told. “The secret to everything” (to use Byrne’s term) is God Himself. And God, the Great Secret, has been revealed in Jesus Christ, “in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:3). 

  

The Real Secret

 

One day, one friend asked another, 

‘How is it that you are always so happy? 

You have so much energy, 

and you never seem to get down.’ 

With her eyes smiling, she said, 

‘I know the Secret!’ 

‘What secret is that?’ 

To which she replied, 

‘I’ll tell you all about it, 

but you have to promise to 

share the Secret with others.’ 

‘The Secret is this: 

I have learned there is little I can do 

in my life that will make me truly happy. 

I must depend on God to make 

me happy and to meet my needs. 

When a need arises in my life, 

I have to trust God to supply 

according to HIS riches. 

I have learned most of the time 

I don’t need half of what I think I do. 

He has never let me down. 

Since I learned that ‘Secret’, I am happy.’ 

The questioner’s first thought was, 

‘That’s too simple!’ 

But upon reflecting over her own life 

she recalled how she thought a bigger house 

would make her happy, but it didn’t! 

She thought a better paying job 

would make her happy, but it hadn’t. 

When did she realize her greatest happiness? 

Sitting on the floor with her grandchildren, 

playing games, eating pizza or reading a story, 

a simple gift from God. 

Now you know it too! 

We can’t depend on people to make us happy. 

Only GOD in His infinite wisdom can do that. 

Trust HIM! 

And now I pass the Secret on to you! 

So once you get it, what will you do? 

YOU have to tell someone the Secret, too! 

That GOD in His wisdom will take care of YOU! 

But it’s not really a secret… 

We just have to believe it and do it… 

Really trust God!
