‘Let your light shine’

13 Apr

One of the driving forces behind the conception of this blog was a thirst to make a positive contribution in our society.

It’s been said before that it’s not who we are but what we do that defines us. Each of us has the means to make a real change today. By cultivating our talents, we help make ripples of difference in the lives of others.

To better the world we live in, we must first better ourselves. If we are to reach the promise of our potential, we must move away from our fears and inhibitions. To grow, sometimes we must leave our safety zone, our nest of comfort. To fly, we must spread our wings and soar to new heights with faith and courage.

So let us walk this journey together, to inspire, rekindle and inflame anew the light of those around us. The lamp we light for others will also brighten our own path.

I’d like to share a clip from the film ‘Coach Carter’. It echoes a powerful sentiment, that is – we’re all meant to shine!

Watching the clip and reading the piece has reaffirmed my believing in ones self to open doors to ALL our potential.

“It is not the ideas that we don’t have that holds us back. But what we have is what holds us back” Edward de Bono.

I interpret that us today is when we must break all preconception eg our race / beliefs/ ideas/ others views on us and walk onto the open landscape of endless new ideas to ALL our OLD thinking.

Well said N’Mo! That comment is on the pulse.
Success comes from mastering OUR inner game, that is, our OWN limited thinking.
Also: “It’s not what we don’t know that prevents us from succeeding; it’s what we know that just ain’t so that is our greatest obstacle” (Josh Billings)

I’m sorry but this clip so does it for me! I believe the “Our Deepest Fear” speech was perfectly executed. Can you imagine!? “Powerful beyond measure”?? Surely not!? Truth is…I can relate.

Being someone is can be considered “extra” at times, one does tend to cower to try conform the conventions of a sheep like mentality but guess what! Those days are over! God put me here for a reason and if its to be overt (for the right reasons of course), then so be it!

    God bless you Atticus

“We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.” – this line sums up your comment A4X : )

It’s in the original ‘Our Deepest Fear’ poem written by Marianne Williamson (though not in the Coach Carter speech). Indeed our talents are given for a purpose..to not play small but to let it shine!

Thank you for sharing. I loved the video and its context….. “So let us walk this journey together, to inspire, rekindle and inflame anew the light of those around us. The lamp we light for others will also brighten our own path.”
